This morning we surprised Mrs. Trueman with fun activities, such as drawing a Christmas tree on top of our head without looking, and cookie face.
Students were rewarded after complete XtraMath and persasuive writing with games on the computer. This afternoon we watched Home Alone to end the week! Students continued to finish their Santa letter as a villain, followed by another colouring nouns and verbs worksheet.
This afternoon we built our gingerbread houses! Students will complete these tomorrow.
One final class was provided to type and print out their persuasive writing piece. During math, students played different card games - spiral and sevens! We reviewed the difference between proper nouns, common nouns, plural nouns, and pronouns by colouring in a mystery picture. Mrs. H joined us for a problem solving hour. In the afternoon we were fortunate that a classmate brought cake and ice cream for their birthday - less science work for the students today! We then observed photos of animals that fly and swim. We will compare characteristics next science class. We ended the day typing the persuasive writing. During social studies, students toured the school to compare it to residential schools. We will continue this activity. A work period was provided to continue with art, unfinished work, and to study for the math quiz. After listening to the book The Day the Crayons Quit, we quickly noticed that the crayons were trying to persuade Duncan in a letter format! What a great example for our next writing activity. Students will choose to be a villain and try to persuade Santa as to why we should be on his "good list" and not his "naughty list". Students had two full computer classes to find supporting examples for their persuasive writing topic. Students are encouraged to find at least one concrete example from a website to support their reasoning. Students were given a design challenge to measure a floor plan's are and perimeter, then to design their own dream house floor plan! Before lunch we finished completing the persuasive booklet as an example before students choose their own topic to research tomorrow! Before lunch students were challenged to code all the messages on each classroom door.
We reviewed what the five elements to a story is with The City of Ember before we watch the movie tomorrow. The last hour was spent with our 2/3M learning buddies coding Rosie's Walk. **Hot lunch forms due Thurs Dec. 13th We began the day with morning meeting. Students practiced measuring perimeter and area with classmates' math art.
Mrs. Hrousalas joined us for a challenging problem solving class! Great communication and group work today. During science students were in groups trying to categorize flight words and explain their reasoning! We will learn all of these words throughout the unit - check out @starbucksandteach Instagram story! We ended the day by looking at a detailed template of "cell phones should not be allowed in cars" for persuasive writing. **Hot lunch forms due Thurs Dec. 13th We began the morning in the library reading and coding the book, When We Were Alone!

The last hour of school was finish up Fri-YAY. Students worked towards completing their art responses, reading responses, math art, and flight title pages!
