The final class was provided to complete the Movie Marathon math booklet.
We began to read short stories to practice finding themes, followed by a double period in the computer lab to continue our pop art. This afternoon a work period was provided to catch up with unfinished work, and then we spent time with Ms. Pype discussing the different needs humans may need to survive - belonging, shelter, power, freedom, and fun. **TUSC TMRW **Movie Marathon booklet due TMRW **Tri-conferences TMRW and FRI **NO SCHOOL FRIDAY FEB 1ST We began the morning with a morning message and indoor active start!
Students continued to work on their long division Movie Marathon booklets. We reflected on our last term goals and whether or not we have accomplished them in academics - this will be discussed during tri-conferences this week. In the afternoon we went to Ms. Bruce's book tasting restaurant! Check out @starbucksandteach Instagram to see it in action! Students were introduced to different novels that are possible book study options. We watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_eScIAl8Dg and discussed what property of fluids was in play and then guessed how the egg will get out! Afterwards we began watching a Bill Nye fluids video, which will be continued on Thursday! **Movie Marathon pages 4-6 due TMRW (entire booklet will be handed in Thursday Jan. 31st) **TUSC Thurs Jan. 31st **Tri-Conferences Thurs Jan. 31st (pm) and Fri Feb 1st (am) We began the morning with our spelling test, followed by reviewing our math homework with division. Students received the task as movie theatre owners and have to solve questions to ensure their business runs smoothly.
Before lunch students began to look at the difference between plagiarism and rewording articles in their own words! Before reading buddies, students competed in math stations for group points! **Movie Marathon pages 1-3 due TMRW (up until the chart) **TUSC Thurs Jan. 31st **Tri-Conferences Thurs Jan. 31st and Fri Feb 1st (NO SCHOOL FRIDAY) Rishi lead our morning meeting today!
Students are beginning to feel confident with remainders as decimals! We worked amazing together through two problem solving questions before lunch. We completed two science experiments that helped us learn that fluids expand and contract (watched a balloon on top of a pop bottle in cold water and hot water), and warm fluids rise and cool fluids sink (hot red water poured into a bowl with blue dyed ice cubes)! Before the end of the day we watched a Heritage Minute clip about the underground railway. We also discussed what the theme was for Unspoken, followed by note taking. **Spelling test and word work MON Jan. 28th **TUSC Thurs Jan. 31st **Tri-Conferences Thurs Jan 31st & Fri Feb 1st We began our morning with estimation 180, followed by a review of how to change remainders to decimals before we corrected our homework.
Ms. Pype joined our classroom once again to discuss and reflect on strategies of how to self regulate ourselves when we feel uncontrolled. Time was spent in the computer lab to continue our pop art - these are coming along nicely! This afternoon we worked on our word work - with sentences using our spelling words, and completed a personality quiz to see which basic need we need the most (love, power, freedom, fun) A full day of indoor recess makes us squirmy, therefore we went on a follow the leader sensory walk before reading the rest of 'Unspoken'. We discussed how the 5 elements of a story can be portrayed with only illustrations. Unspoken was about the underground railroad. **Spelling test/ word work Mon Jan. 28th **TUSC Thurs Jan. 31st What a beautiful morning to have active start!
Students were challenged to change their long division remainders into decimals today! During ELA we began to "read" the book Unspoken and created a list of the 5 components to a story - characters, setting, plot, conflict/resolutions, and theme. We will continue looking at the components to this story tomorrow. This afternoon we had our TUSC meeting. Students are feeling comfortable with each job description, however eye contact, expression in volume, and body language are encouraged to continue to practice! During science we looked at the similarities and differences of living and non living things. As an exit slip today, students had to share one fact about flight. Parents, ask your child to see if they remember anything ;) **Long division front page due TMRW We began our morning with estimation 180, followed by a discussion with Ms. Pype about the different emotions we may experience. We connected this conversation with the movie we watched yesterday, Inside Out. We also discussed about different strategies that we might use to assist us to reach different zones.
During computer time, we practiced xtramath , and evaluated an ad's 4 components! We finally shared our silly sentences and discussed what the subject and predicates are - these will be shared during tri-conferences. The day was ended by watching a quick video about what pop art is! Students began their art project by choosing a logo to draw. **TUSC presentations TMRW Today is known as "blue Monday" - the saddest day of the year. In 5/6B we turned that around with feeling confident while completing division math, going outside for cross country, and watching the movie Inside Out with our MUGG groups in the gym this afternoon!
**Good copy of health ads due TMRW **Pizza order forms due TMRW $5 a pizza from BP **TUSC WED Jan. 23rd We reflected how the afternoon went yesterday before beginning our day. What did we learn while Ms. Bruce was away?
Students looked a new word patterns for this week's spelling words - long u and prefixes (pre, inter, re) Students began to practice division with two digit divisors. Work periods were provided to students this afternoon to complete unfinished work such as silly sentences, dreamcatchers, health ads, and math practice! Happy Fri-YAY! **Cross Country Ski MON Jan 21st - dress to be outside for a hour! **Long division first page due MON Jan 21st **Health ads due Tues Jan 22nd - marked out of 5 (1 mark for headline, 1 mark for call to action, 1 mark for body copy, 1 mark for design and overall appearance, 1 mark for accurate information for chosen benefit of the activity) **Pizza order forms due Tues Jan. 22nd - pizza arrives Jan 29th **TUSC Wed Jan. 23rd |
