6B really worked on their class community while working on tasks, and walking in the hallways today! We have completed the word RESPECT on the board earning another point!
Students completed their health reflections from their presentations. We completed our daily edit this week after our math stations. A final work period was provided to finish their animal creations. If they were completed, students had a chance to silent read. The final products of the animal creations are extraordinary! This morning the students chose the elements to the morning meeting. This assisted our tiny teacher to run our first student lead meeting!
We reviewed some answers to our GCF worksheet, and will continue to work on these tomorrow. T.U.S.C. presentations were all so diverse today! Take a look at my Instagram; @starbucksandteach The presentations took longer and we were not able to get to health. Students will complete a reflection for their group recess presentations for me tomorrow instead. **Animal Creation is due tomorrow!! - period 8 will be the gallery walk (I may or may not provide extra time tomorrow to complete the finish touches) ** Next T.U.S.C. meeting is Thursday Dec. 7th ** No school FRIDAY Dec. 1st! This morning 6B received a full hour and a bit to continue working on their animal creation. Students either continued to research animals with the ipads/ computers or began their good copy.
This afternoon our ELA period was broken into daily edit, listening to The City of Ember, and visiting the grade 8 science class' models of plant or animal cells. They were super cool to look at because they are a deeper understanding of diversity of living things! We analyzed a photo shown on the board, "Mother Great Britain" and came up with two wonder questions; Where is Saskatchewan and Alberta? What was the most recent province to join Canada? We stayed outside to continue our health presentations after recess. Unfortunately it has been so icy outside, we have had to cut the time of the games down because we want to reduce the risk of injuries. **T.U.S.C. is tomorrow ! **Animal Creations are due THURS Nov. 30th **NO SCHOOL FRIDAY DEC 1st We started the morning with a morning meeting, followed by daily edit, and The City of Ember.
Students continued to work on word problems, and common factors in math. Ipads are booked for tomorrow morning to finish off research for animal creation assignment. **Bring in materials to work on science assignment tomorrow if you have completed all research! **T.U.S.C. is Wed Nov. 29th **Animal Creation is due Thurs Nov. 30th During math students worked on their word problems. While students worked on these, a few went over to 6C to check out their monster creations for inspiration for their animal creations in science!
Students received a double period with the laptops to continue their research for their animal creation. Another double period will be provided on Tuesday, therefore if students would like to bring in materials to finish their assignment from home then they may do so. We finished watching a film called Galapagos, followed by a discussion on structural and behavioural adaptations. Ms. Bruce was in a meeting for the last hour of school and the substitue left a note saying "For a Friday afternoon, last period before the weekend, and as a substitue, your class was great!" 6B has earned another point to the word RESPECT! **Bring in animal creation materials to work on final product one last time Tues. Today we completed day 147 of estimation 180. Afterwards they began to work on their word problems worksheet. This worksheet will be due tomorrow at the end of the day. A continuation of sketch note taking while I read The City of Ember occurred. The students received their government quizzes back today! You may ask them to see theirs! We began to discuss what it takes to put a country together for our next unit: Building a Nation. In science students received a new project that will allow them to display their knowledge that they have gained during the unit Diversity of Living Things. They are to create a new animal with the use of terminology, research, and analysis of different animals. Students will receive two more days to complete this. **T.U.S.C. is Wed Nov. 29th **Animal Creation is due Thurs Nov. 30th Our morning meeting was extended into math today. On Tuesday and/or Thursday we will focus our time on estimation 180 and word problems!
During library time we were introduced to a strategy called A.E.I.O.U. while watching, listening, or reading. T.U.S.C. presentations were today- we will continue them tomorrow because we went outside during health for our presentations. Students are to be aware of at least two social, physical, and mental benefits of physical activity. **Next T.U.S.C. meeting is Nov. 29th **Band concert is Wednesday - please arrive at 6 p.m. Concert begins at 6:30 p.m. We discussed some strategies for how we can find factors to numbers - t-charts, rainbows, arrays. Majority of the students chose t-charts when I challenged them to find Common Factors (CF) between two-three numbers.
This afternoon we had the government quiz! Quizzes will be given back this week. During creative writing students had the choice to write about a shark that was embarrassed, or any other topic of their choice. They were challenged to pick a writing goal and write it on the top of their papers to encourage them to accomplish it while writing! **Creative Writing piece is due tomorrow if it was not completed in class **T.U.S.C. is TOMORROW **Band Concert is Wed Nov. 22nd - please arrive at 6 p.m., concert starts at 6:30p.m. This morning students completed the arrays for the numbers 1-50! We also discussed the strategy of "C.U.B.E.S." for solving word problems. This conversation will continue next week.
During learning buddies we interviewed our buddy and played Popcorn Counting! Students worked hard this week to receive the word "Respect" on the board. This afternoon we dissected sea stars! It was very interesting - yet disgusting for some students. During Social Studies we reviewed answers to the Nellie McClung worksheet, as well as the answers to the review for the quiz! Next Monday, Nov. 20th is Games Night from 4-6pm!
