Before the fun on this Fri-YAY, we looked at how we can use division and multiplication to convert improper fractions and mixed numbers to one another.
Gym Rally 2018 was majority in the morning! Students cleaned out their desks and lockers before the break. In science we finally completed our paper airplane design and inquiry - great designs! We went to two different classes for gallery walks - one in grade 7 and another in grade 6. **Wear TEAM COLOURS TMRW **Final day of school TMRW before Spring Break! **TUSC presentations due MON April 2 (day we come back from Spring Break) Explanations to the WW1 photos shown yesterday created deep thinking and discussions.
Students had time to finish creating their paper airplane, followed by a test throw. Time ran out and we will complete this competition tomorrow morning. We began correcting the math worksheet and will continue tomorrow. Students worked on a fractions worksheet with mixed numbers and improper fractions.
Science was spent folding, creating, tapping, and throwing paper airplanes. Tomorrow we will have a challenge to see whose will fly the furthest. Eight photos were placed around the class and students filled in a KWL chart based on photos from WW1. Students listened to the story, "The Fun We Had" and deconstructed things that we liked, and disliked about the story. We discussed how important it is to ensure your title is interesting, and gives the reader an idea what the story might be about.
We continued reading mini stories to find the themes, after spending time in the library working on our book trailers! Improper fractions, proper fractions, and mixed numbers were discussed in math today. In the afternoon we used manipulatives to display and compare improper and mixed fractions. It was our student teacher's last day and spent the final class playing games before we said our goodbyes! Students spent the morning planning and creating their book trailers for their literature circle book of their choice, followed by a final meeting! Two more classes in the library will be provided to finish the book trailers. Estimation 180 was on the topic of pie once again... how fitting for today! In math we began looking at percentages with relation to eaten pie for estimation 180.
Half the class was away for track & field, therefore we looked at different mascots for sports teams, and brands. We discussed how they represent the region, or the brand's values. We then looked at the Paralympics' mascot and watched a highlight from a sledge hockey game! Students then created their own mascot to represent a different room within the school. The 4 forces of flight was discussed, followed by a paper airplane testing assignment. **Lit circle is to be completed tomorrow and the 5 elements worksheet **Activity logs are over due for Ms. Hiebert **NO SCHOOL FRIDAY Mar. 16th **TUSC is due MONDAY April 2 (the day we return from spring break!) Students received their math quizzes back today.
Mini stories were read in groups to find the themes for each one. This will be continued next ELA class. Different conflicts were discussed during social studies and how different factors lead to resolutions. This was an introductory to the idea of World War 1 and how conflicts and resolutions occur during this time. A class discussion on how different factors affect lift and Bernoulli's principle took place. Students concluded that the sturdy materials were more stable than the lighter materials. **Lit circle book and 5 elements chart is due WED March 14th **NO SCHOOL FRIDAY MARCH 16th **TUSC meeting Monday April 2nd (first Monday back from Spring Break) Students completed their math quiz.
