We began the morning with a spelling test, and a discussion on the pattern of multiplying and dividing with multiples of 10. Students began to work on the math review.
Before lunch, we met with Ms. Pype and discussed about concerns we have within the classroom. Next meeting we will discuss about possible resolutions. Our day began with an active start indoors, followed by correcting yesterday's homework. One more dividing with decimals worksheet was provided.
Time was given to work on Dr. Seuss theme book titles, followed by TUSC in the afternoon! All grade 6 students were able to meet with the principal from Arthur A. Leach today. Before lunch students received the rubric for their social studies research assignment and time with the textbooks for note taking. This afternoon students had the pleasure to listen to Jon Reyes read to them. A lesson on dividing with decimals was reintroduced - because we have been doing this the entire time with remainders! (HOW COOL!) Students successfully tested and reported on their flight designs - really well thought out and designed! Students met in their book club groups and read together. A discussion and handout was provided for how to cite proper reliable sources. Students were given time to work on their word work, before our 100th day of school assembly. During problem solving students worked in pairs to create graphs of their results from the paper basketball. A hour was provided for students to research positive and negative benefits of the invention of an airplane (students were warned to ensure they have examples incase a question like this appears on the test... HINT HINT) and begin planning/ designing their flying object! The last hour was book club - all students handed in their golden ticket on time! This afternoon students were given time to complete their book club golden tickets and silent read before multiplying with decimals! Students were introduced to their final flight design assignment. We also created flags that represent who we are and had classmates guess which one belonged to us! During computers half of the class was tricked by a fake website that we were evaluating. What a great example of ensuring to read through the information carefully for an accurate resource for research! Time was provided to work on the book club golden ticket. Students complete a job after every third book club meeting for an assessment of understanding. The final hour was to go through Tuesday's plan (gr 5's and Ms. Bruce at Festival, while the gr 6's stay for a fun filled activity day!) and a work period for unfinished work. This morning we completed estimation 180 and got ready for our paper airplane challenge! Check out @starbucksandteach Instagram story for lots of videos! Students began a creative writing topic - they chose between: 1. Write a paragraph to convince people that a stapler is the most romantic Valentine’s gift you could ever give to someone. 2. Pretend you have been put in charge of your class’s Valentine’s Day party. What would you plan to do? What would you plan to eat?
