During The City of Ember, Doon, Poppy, and Lina went down the river in the boat ... and realized there's no turning back. This afternoon students began to write a reading response to The City of Ember by choosing an impression, connection, and wondering! S.S. quizzes were returned and reviewed. Parents you may ask to see these, they were suppose to be brought home to be shown to you! We began the morning with active start, followed by reviewing the answers to the area math homework.
During The City of Ember, Doon and Lina tried to find each other during the black out. When the lights turned back on, Doon found Lina... who had Poppy with her to head down to the pipe works. Students completed the science test today on weather. S.S. tests will be given back tomorrow! We ended the day with writing apology letters to our lunch supervisor for the behaviour that was displayed during lunch and our art mandalas. **math pg 134 #5 due TMRW **NO SCHOOL FRIDAY NOV 30th We began the morning with estimation 180! As a class we went through some area examples - finding different rectangles for the same area (factors!)
As a class we went over the science review for the test tomorrow. Students completed their first S.S. quiz of the year! We ended the day with a review of the two types of ads there are and will be creating ads for physical activity soon! **Science test TMRW **Math questions page 134 #2-1 due TMRW We began our morning with an active start game!
Students collaborated while working on an area practice worksheet. During creative writing, students were to write three facts and three lies about their weekend activities. Some were very convincing! During science we completed the severe weather notes, and played a jeopardy review. Before French we reviewed the S.S. review for the quiz tomorrow! Students are encouraged to study from their review, the first people's notes, and the seven sacred teachings chart! **S.S. quiz TMRW **Science quiz Wed Nov. 28th **Overdue typed out creative writing with an illustration on the bottom! We completed all S.S. presentations on the six regions of Canada. A review was handed out for the S.S. quiz. A guaranteed question is to choose a region and pick 4 bubbles from the mind map and fill it out!
We investigated words with prefixes of un and words with the ending of -tion for our word sort. A final class was provided to type out the creative writing piece. A small photo is to be included on the bottom. These will be published into a class book! During The City of Ember, Lina was captured and brought to the Mayor. Students had time during finish up fri-yay to work on their science and s.s. review and their creative writing! **Parents, an important letter was sent home today! **S.S. During math we tested out our benchmark for estimation 180 by seeing how long a toilet paper roll is! (see @starbucksandteach on Instagram for photos) we also corrected the area practice. Before lunch we learned that tornadoes are 75% reported in the United States worldwide! Students had a full hour to begin typing out their creative writing. One half hour period will be provided tomorrow to finish them up. We ended the day by working on our Seven Sacred Teachings Mandala art! **Wear PJs TMRW for a spirit day **S.S. quiz Tues Nov. 27th **Science quiz Wed Nov. 28th Time was provided to work on practice area questions from the textbook. These will be corrected and reviewed tomorrow.
Students wrote down examples of wonderings that they can write in their reading response letter about The City of Ember. We ended the morning with our spelling tests and presentations from the St. Lawrence - Great Lakes Lowlands and the Western Cordillera groups. The final group will present Friday. We ended the day with working on our Sacred Teachings Mandala art. **Area practice page 233-234 #1, 3a&d, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 due TMRW **Rewritten rough copy of creative writing due TMRW because we will be typing these out in the computer lab! We began our morning with a health active start game, followed by taking notes on how to find the area of an irregular figure.
Students took notes down on different connections that they can make to a reading response. This afternoon 5/6B once again received a big compliment about our behaviour and manners during library - way to go! We completed all TUSC presentations today, these were the best ones yet! A few tips to continue to work towards are; consistent eye contact, volume, and use the powerpoint for only points (don't read straight from the slideshow!) We ended the day by learning about hurricanes and that they help regulate the climate by moving heat energy from the equator to the poles! **Spelling test and word work TMRW **Rough copy of creative writing due TMRW - we will begin typing these out **French quiz TMRW We corrected the perimeter homework and began to take notes on area!
Students continued to self edit their chosen creative writing piece. During the City of Ember, students wrote an impression from the section that was read aloud today. They will be creating a reading response this week in a letter format to me! We are half way done the Canadian regions presentations. The Atlantic Region presented this afternoon. A quiz will take place next week. Students are encouraged to begin to really study one region for the long answer part... they will choose one region and fill out the mind map (we have been using these for our note taking in class!) To end the day we had a quick review on the different types of benefits from physical activity through our active start games thus far! As a class we reviewed the answers to the perimeter practice questions and students began to work on their homework for the weekend! During creative writing, we wrote stories about a football player (idea was inspired by the upcoming Wpg Blue Bomber's game on Sunday!) or an embarrassing sporting event. In the afternoon we listened to the City of Ember and did not want to stop! Lina and Doon found a boat and realized that they must go down the river to escape Ember! Students selected a creative writing piece they have written thus far and began to edit it. We are focusing on punctuation, capitals, spelling, and detailed sentences. Stay tuned for our published work.
