To kick start Outdoor Days, we had O'Canada outside, followed by active start!
Ms Pype joined our class and talked to us about consent. Students were introduced the term human sexuality. We will begin our unit more in depth starting next week! Before lunch students assisted with planting and completed a scavenger hunt outside. This afternoon students completed the math quiz, and the poetry slam! The egg drop challenged was introduced - in groups of 2-3 students are to BUILD something to help save Humpty Dumpty from falling again. Corrections were reviewed for the math homework. Students were challenged today to make the longest chain of paper with only ONE piece of construction paper. Great team work everyone! This afternoon TUSC presentations continued from students who were away. Students learned about the excretory system - parents ask your child about this system before they pee ;) There was great conversation around this! We ended the day with our poetry slam! We ran out of time and will continue on Wednesday! Ms. Bruce will be away at the divisional track meet. Students continued with their pixel math art, and began their math worksheet. This afternoon Ms. Pype joined our class and discussed what "drama" is and different methods to solve or avoid it. Answers were reviewed from yesterdays math homework. Time was provided for students to type their final poem to be handed in on Monday May 27th before the poetry slam! This afternoon we looked at the mathematician Fibonacci and the artist Mondrian. All S.S. presentations are complete! Great effort was put into these presentations! This afternoon details were provided for the final poetry assessment - writing and presenting a poem! Students evaluated children's picture books that were created by my sisters, previous students, and even myself! These are examples of final products of our next unit in ELA - story writing! Ms. Bruce introduced the final project of the poetry unit - poetry slam on Mon May 27th Students will choose their own poem, or a published poem to memorize and perform to the class! It has to be at least 5 lines long, we want to make it easy and fun! Students watched an episode of Arthur and discussed that authors get inspiration for their stories from personal experiences. The class looked at items and jot note memories that these items sparked. We will share these mini inspirations with the class Tuesday. During math students solved word problems from the game Mathological Liar! This afternoon students participated in a high jump competition.
