It was the closing ceremony assembly for I Love to Read month and we had a school wide "stop, drop, and read"!
Students chose a quadrant of thought while listening to The City of Ember. TUSC presentations were completed today - they were well presented and very entertaining to watch! A final health research assignment was introduced. Students will choose a topic, research, and present to the class in the month of April. Class time will be provided to complete this assignment - all students have the rubrics of how they will be marked! **Next TUSC meeting is Thurs March 8th **Long division/ decimals quiz is March 7th or 8th **Lit Circle meeting is Wed March 7th

We used base 10 blocks to assist solving multiplying decimals.
Devices were used to research where and when residential schools existed in Manitoba, we will continue this research on Friday! A comparison discussion between The Lorax book and movie occurred before moving onto literature circle meetings. Each group discussed the 5 elements that they have completed so far and made a reading goal for the next meeting on March 7th. Mrs. Stewart visited our classroom and discussed how being unique and confident is important while being ourselves! **TUSC presentations are TMRW! **Next lit circle meetings are Wed. We reviewed and corrected the multiples of 10 chart page - when multiplying we move the decimal RIGHT and when dividing we move the decimal to the LEFT! **Dr. Seuss theme covers are finally due TMRW **Bring a device to school for social studies TMRW **Bring lit circle books to school TMRW **TUSC is Wed Feb 28th **Hand in registration forms in ASAP Answers were reviewed for the error math worksheet.
Students successfully analyzed photos from residential schools, followed by a walk around the school to compare our school! Students will research similarities and differences between residential schools and our school to deepen their understanding of the circumstances students endured. By viewing photos and videos of animals that fly and swim, students are able to identify characteristics that assist with flight! The remaining time of the afternoon, students worked on their Dr. Seuss theme covers. **Ms. Bruce is away tomorrow **Dr. Seuss theme covers are due MONDAY Feb. 26th **Math chart worksheet (handed out for tomorrow) is due MONDAY Feb. 26th Have a good weekend everyone! Students used front end rounding to assist with correction of decimal placements for products and quotients.
Students used their Dr. Seuss books to find a theme and recreate the covers. We spent majority of the morning practicing the correct placement of the decimal.
We finally completed TUSC within the two period time frame! Well done 6B - we remained focused and respectful during the presentations today! We spent health class watching Canadian Olympic highlights - figuring skating, and the two man bobsled! We discussed how knowing decimals is very important for time to determine the winner - or in this case WINNERS (Canada tying Germany for gold!) **Dr. Seuss discussion worksheet is due tomorrow - make sure you have a theme picked out for the book! **Luke's teacher math questions are due TMRW **TUSC is Wed. Feb. 28th **Parents please sign and hand back the registration forms that were sent home on Thursday Since tomorrow is PAD we estimated the height of a travel bus!
Time was provided to finish up the health pop art assignment. The following is how it will be marked: displayed creativity and originality through the use of pop art - 3 marks - Takes up the entire space - Large - Colourful used different colours for the pop art representation - 3 marks explain what brand you used and whether or not it is a healthy food brand (use at least 3 sentences!) - 3 marks chose a food brand to express pop art - 1 mark During learning buddies we shared our health pop art and created different ones. An introduction to estimating the answer of multiplying numbers with decimals was discussed. We will discuss this more - there was lots of questions! **PAD is TMRW! **NO SCHOOL MONDAY! **TUSC and health pop art is due TUES Feb. 20th **Read at least 30 pages of the lit circle books - fill in the 5 element chart with evidence from the novel! **Dr. Seuss discussion page in lit circle duotangs due Wed. 6B walked over to Lindenwood Manor to drop off valentine's day cards and visited with the residents! We were the first class to bring valentine's over to Lindenwood Manor! A photo of a before and after of being in a residential school was shown during social studies. Connections were made to the book that was read yesterday! It was gorgeous outside, therefore 6B had another phys ed class outside and we played capture the flag! Students received a chart of the 5 elements that they will be taking notes with while reading their literature circle book. **Wear red or plaid tomorrow for Festival du Voyager kick off! **PAD is this FRIDAY - no school **NO SCHOOL MONDAY Feb 19th **TUSC and health pop art is due Tues Feb. 20th **Dr. Seuss discussion paper due Wed. Feb 21st Our student teacher discussed our last "Valentine's Day" estimation 180 series. We then practiced the place value of our decimals - we have an excellent understanding of this!

A read aloud of When We Were Alone was the starting conversation of residential schools in Canada for social studies. Students learned an egg trick during science!
