We had our first MUGG meeting to honour orange shirt day! We had our second TUSC meeting in the afternoon. A goal we continue to work on is to practice our speech to improve our eye contact and volume in our voice. As a class we went over the answers to page 46 for math. I reviewed how it is very important to format your answers to questions!
Before lunch students were given more time to work on their life line captions. Ms. Bruce was away this afternoon Students continued to work on their life line captions, listened to The City of Ember, and worked on a temperature sheet. They ended their afternoon with art - "one big black dot" (students are to turn a black dot into something else!) **Life line captions rough draft due TMRW - we are in the computer lab to start typing **TUSC Friday Sept. 28th **Weather forecast log due Tues. Oct 2nd We have all completed graphing our life lines! We began writing the captions for our pictures. One more class will be provided to write their rough copy before typing it out on Thursday.
In math as a class we corrected page 45. Page 46 is due TMRW. Students worked on math review questions from the textbook about place value.
This afternoon we looked at the difference between the definitions of weather and climate. A weather forecast log was provided for homework. Everyday students are to record the weather predictions from a source for the next day on their sheet. Later the following day, they will record the actual weather conditions from that day and so forth. This mini project is due Tues Oct. 2nd. During The City of Ember Lina had to visit her friend Clary in the greenhouses to pass a message... soon after a man came stumbling with scratches on his face to their area... Students began graphing their life lines. Most have been completed and are ready for the photos and descriptions added! Next week we will be focusing on writing the descriptions. The pop quiz for the map of Canada was completed through Plickers. The school had an assembly to honor International Dot Day in the afternoon. During the City of Ember we learned that Doon wants to learn more about electricity and Lina's grandma is looking for something... We had our first TUSC meeting! Some pointers for next week are; speak louder, have a visual to your presentation, include only key points on the powerpoint/ prezi while you read your script, provide details and have fun! Students wrote a short creative writing piece about a crisp $100 bill that was worried... The City of Ember was read aloud - Lina went to her Grandmother's shop to share her good news and received a message for the city's mayor! The life line projects were discussed today! We began our week with exploring the class expectations through four songs! Check out the home page to guess what songs they are. ELA: Ms. Bruce began to read aloud The City of Ember. Students also took a classmate's drawing from their summer and interpreted the drawing into their own creative writing piece! What a great way to learn and understand different perspectives and interpretations! TUSC jobs were assigned as well. MATH: We began our estimation 180 journey on Tuesday and continued it today. We had a small review of place value vocabulary and word problem strategies. SCIENCE: We began our weather unit in science! Check out @starbucksandteach for a word splash!
