Time was provided for students to continue their rough drafts of their picture books. Tomorrow is an edit day and conference with myself if they would refer for feedback and suggestions! Our final TUSC presentations were wrapped up today! Monday is when we will begin to type the good copies. We discussed why and how Anne Frank is important. Students were challenged with a dilemma problem regarding a supply list! During math a review and note taking on how to find area took place. Students worked hard during science to complete their sun posters! Information gallery walk happened afterwards! Time was spent reading Hana's Suitcase, followed by visiting the website: http://www.annefrank.org/en/Subsites/Home/ Students are to consider the following questions: Who is Anne Frank? How many people were hiding? Why were they hiding? When were they hiding? (dates) How do we know Anne Frank? Why is her diary important? Students continued to work on their main character charts. A story mountain was handed out to assist with ideas for writing their story! A discussion on the Holocaust during WW2 had students wonder and ask questions! The rest of the afternoon was research on the sun with the laptops! Mapping of countries that were involved during WW2 challenged the class. Students had to compare current maps to older maps from 1949! TUSC presentations were finished today, followed by time to work on their main character inside/ outside chart. The last period was spent researching more information about the Sun for their poster information. Students read the back of future literature circle books - based on WW2. TUSC presentations were completed. Missed presentations will be continued tomorrow. Students received their trench letter assignment and their quizzes back today before moving onto World War 2! As a class, we read the first two pages in the textbook and filled out a worksheet. During creative writing students wrote stories about "the day the sun disappeared"! **TUSC and health presentations TMRW **Creative writing due TMRW **Art invitations due ASAP - by FRIDAY May 25th We finished watching Pixar films to understand story mountains.
Bus Ridership was shortly after. Students read and analyzed books that I made when I was in grade 6! Hopefully this inspires an idea! Notes were continued for perimeter. Short pixar films were played while students mapped out the story mountain for each! This will assist with planning their own stories very soon. Students were put into groups to research one of the following topics: 1) sun protection 2) the roles of the sun in photosynthesis 3) importance of the sun in legends and cultures 4) six different regions of the sun These groups will make an information poster for the class to gain more knowledge on!
