What a fun busy day at the Manitoba Museum!

We began the morning going over the math homework, followed by a brief discussion on how to order fractions with different denominators!
Time was provided for students to finish their book trailers and began playing on prodigy! (A fun math website!) Before lunch students played the math game ghost for group points! We enjoyed the first day of spring by walking to South Pointe to watch their Seussical the Musical! **Manitoba Museum field trip TMRW - bring bagged lunch! **Golden ticket #3 due ASAP **Science title page OVERDUE **Book trailers due FRI Mar. 22nd We began the day with a morning meeting, followed by estimation 180 and equivalent fractions practice.
During problem solving, students had to create word problems with the answers already provided for them! In science students all shared one fact that they know about the human body and then sorted these facts into categories! After recess, we looked at reduced equivalent fractions! This afternoon students worked on the following Word work for their spelling test, and golden ticket #3! We began the morning with a Pi estimation theme, followed by note taking on equivalent fractions. A hour was provided to work on the 5 elements of a story, golden ticket #3, and to finish reading their book club books! A hour was also provided for students to begin their rough paragraph copy of their social studies research topic. Another class will be provided on Monday to continue their rough copy. These presentations will occur AFTER spring break! We ended the day with a continuation of our Burger Art! We then went for an active start walk!
A hour was provided to students to finish collecting information for the social studies research project. Next class students will be using their jot notes and turning them into a rough copy paragraphs. During creative writing, students told my why they chose the animal, and explained their life in the day of a squirrel or a frog. This afternoon students had 45 mins to meet in their book clubs. A few groups finished, and others are continuing to finish by Monday. Students began to work on their HUMAN BODY title pages for science! When we got back, we completed a St. Patrick's estimation 180. Students were then asked if they wanted 2/10 OR 1/5 of a chocolate bar... most of the class was tricked! They are equivalent fractions!! We will look at how we can find equivalent fractions and what they mean on Thursday. **Gr. 7 Acadia registration please hand in TMRW **No school Fri Mar. 15th We began the morning by a student led morning meeting, followed by the spelling test.
Students worked in groups for a problem solving question that talked about maximum, minimum, and range. They also worked on a fun task called "skyscrapers" (check out @starbucksandteach Instagram for the post!) This afternoon there was an assembly about Jump Rope for Heart. Students will receive an envelope to raise money for Heart & Stroke Foundation - this will be due around April 10th (parents, there are incentives to raise money!) Before the end of the day students had a hour in the computer lab to continue research for their S.S. topic. **Indoor track meet TMRW! - bring bagged lunch! **Acadia Gr. 7 registration due Wed Mar. 13th **South Pointe Permission click ASAP (parents check your email!) We began the morning with a morning meeting with Ms. Pype and discussed some strategies we can work on as a class to assist with problem solving. We discussed as a class that this discussion is only half of the strategies, the other half is individually being responsible to apply and use these!
Before lunch students met in their book club and continued to read their literature books. The golden tickets that were handed in today were marked and handed back to the students! This afternoon students received their word work and lots of work periods to complete unfinished work. Before the end of the day, we had Finish Up Fri-YAY (if students had everything complete, they were able to play a game!) I asked would you rather have 1/4 or 1/8 of an apple and why, and provided them that fraction of an apple!
