We began the morning with active start, followed by number of the day (52)! In math we practiced double digit addition and began to talk about regrouping our tens when we have more than 9 ones. We completed our Stella Diaz summary, followed by daily 5.
This afternoon some students completed their Japan inquiry and we completed another science experiment that proved that liquids take the shape of the container and that solids maintain their shape! Agenda:

We began the morning with a morning message, daily edit, and daily 5. In daily edit we discussed that when we speak about ourselves we won't say "Me have to go to the washroom" - we use the word "I" instead. Example, "My mom and I went to the pet store!"
In math students finished their representing a number assignment and played some math games, before we continued our battleship games in social studies. This afternoon we had a guest speaker speak about what it is like to be an everyday hero and that everyone has courage to do one thing! We ended the day with writing a summary for Stella Diaz. Agenda:
This morning we continued our inquiry research for our Japan topics, and finished our TUSC meeting. In math we played a greater than, or less than number game. Before lunch we had Daily 5.
This afternoon during PATHS we began to discuss different feelings we may experience. In science we conducted an experiment to test if liquids interact differently with surfaces - we found that yes they do! Liquids will run down a smoother surface quicker than a surface that is bumpy! Words Their Way choice practice - students may choose the following practices - word sort: simply take your time sorting your words by saying the word out loud and looking at the letter patterns - speed sort: time yourself saying the word out loud and placing it in the proper category - blind writing: have a partner say the word out loud, and you write down the word. If you do not have a partner, read the word and then write down the word - blind spelling: have a partner say the word out loud, and you verbally spell the word out loud. If you do not have a partner, read the word and then verbally spell the word out loud Agenda:
We began our day with a walk around the school, followed by daily 5. In school we are writing down definitions for at least 8 of our WTW. In math we completed a number talk before some TUSC presentations.
This afternoon our learning buddies read to us before baby Mila visited us for Roots of Empathy. Before gym, we finished reading our section for Stella Diaz and began brainstorming the recap of what happened. Agenda: 1. WTW – blind spelling (spell it out loud without looking, no writing) 2. Spelling definitions - Zakhar, Saharsh, Ethan Dylann, Eva, James 3. Levelled reading due Dec. 3rd 4. Bring hamper items by Dec. 12th 5. Blue T.U.S.C. Tues Dec. 3rd (Michael, Dylann, Yianni, Kayaan, Stacey, Adam, Aryana, Kristin, Ethan, Jaidyn, Harsha) We started our day with morning meeting, followed by our first choice of daily 5!
In math we worked on estimation 180, and worked on a problem solving question that asked us to add and subtract two digit numbers! We wrote T.W.A.S. this afternoon and chose to write about science. Students completed the ending of T.W.A.S. by explaining an experiment we conducted and what they learned from it - it was well done by everyone! Agenda:
We began our morning with a Go Noodle dance, and sorting/ writing down our spelling words in our groups.
In math students began to create a wanted sign on representing a number in multiple ways. During Daily 5 students completed their mini spelling tests and writing. This afternoon we continued our research for our inquires of Japan, and read a bit of Stella Diaz. Agenda:
We thought of things we would do if we found a wand as a morning message. During daily edit we discussed the purpose of a comma - to extend a thought, or in a list!
In math we continued on with estimation 180, followed by challenging our classmates to use the exact pattern blocks for Mr. Lorax's mustache. Students then graphed the blocks that they used. During daily 5 we continued with writing about an angry gorilla, or our weekend, and the mini spelling retests. New WTW (words their way) words were handed out today. Students are to cut their words out and try to categorize them accordingly to the headings (read the heading by the "sort number" at the top. for reference). If students have a hard time placing a few of these words - we will meet in our groups and go over the answers tomorrow! PLEASE RETURN THE WORDS IN THE ENVELOPE AND BRING TO SCHOOL TOMORROW. Students also received their next levelled reading and questions for home reading. During social studies we reviewed longitude and latitude before playing Battleship! Agenda:
We started the day with Mrs. Perron and researched our topics for our inquiries about Japan. In math we completed the number of the day - 43 and then worked on Daily 5.
Mrs. S came into our room for PATHs and discussed how important it is to stop and think about our actions before doing them. In science we continued to learn that liquids take up space, even when a container seems full! Agenda:
We began our morning with active start, followed by Daily 5 - students had their first choice round! During math we completed estimation 180, and tried to use pattern blocks to fill in Mr. Lorax's mustache. We will continue an extended activity with these this week..
During Stella Diaz we are using the comprehension strategy of making a picture in our minds while listening and then drawing it out! This afternoon with our learning buddies we learned a new addition mental math game called - Clear the Board. Parents you may reuse this game board by simply using coins, or putting it inside a page protector and use dry eraser markers. In science we investigated and discovered that solids have mass/ weight and take up space, as well as that liquids have mass/weight too! Agenda:
Miss Cass (Ms. Bruce's sister) joined us this morning and shared her experience with us when she visited Japan! She then helped us complete our Day of the Dead art. Students read to themselves before lunch - we didn't have enough time today for a full Daily 5.
This afternoon was filled with wonderful TUSC presentations! Keep working on your volume grade 3's! We ended the day with coming up with our inquiry research topic for Japan. Agenda:
