During daily 5 students read to self, and wrote an ending to a spooky story. We practiced our role playing for our PATHs presentations on how we can solve problems before we went to the gym for the Halloween parade.
We finished summarizing what happened in Stella Diaz from chapters 11-13 - Stella has found her voice and has something to say! We ended the day with our Halloween snack/dance/ drawing party. Thank you to those who brought the snacks this round :) Have a fun and safe night everyone! Agenda:

We began our morning with active start, followed by daily 5. Students worked on an adjective worksheet and if they had time remaining either draw and describe their Halloween costume or guess mine.
In math we looked at Estimation 180 and practiced equality questions. With our learning buddies this afternoon we talked about being safe while trick-or-treating, and played a would you rather Halloween edition game. In science students used their sense of touch of making observations of what was inside the bag and had to make a hypothesis of what it was (cat guts, monster hair/ teeth, etc.) and the actual item! Our imaginations were running really fast! Agenda:
During math students worked on equality and began to look at patterns!
Students reorganized our classroom library into books that are suitable for our reading levels. Time was provided to practice TUSC presentations before we began in the afternoon. We read Stella Diaz to end the day and learned the meaning of a new Spanish word - ninos (means children). Agenda:
We began the day with a morning meeting, followed by daily 5. In our writing today we rolled a dice to determine our writing topic. In math we practiced more equality equations!
In social studies, students learned about the equator, prime meridian, longitude and latitude lines. We ended the day reading Stella Diaz. Agenda:
We started the morning with daily 5 and describing what scares us the most!
In math we completed our pumpkin place value - these will be brought home next week for Halloween. As a class we discussed about class room celebrations and home reading opportunities for a challenge. Parents, please refer to your email about these topics. Baby Mila visited us this afternoon and we finished the day with completing our writing for T.W.A.S. - parents you have homework this weekend! Agenda:
We began the morning with daily 5, - reading to someone and continuing to write with adjectives. Students chose a picture to write down a description of everything that they saw. They then took these ideas and turned it into a mini story:
Example: There are dark clouds. There is green grass. There is oval rain drops falling from the sky into the blue water. One day while I was at the sunny beach, grey dark clouds rolled into the sky. Suddenly big oval rain drops fell from the sky. I had to quickly find cover to remain dry. I searched in the green grass for a tree, but was in no luck. I had to run fast to my car to avoid the rain. I decided that I should go home instead. Time was provided to continue to complete the place value pumpkins in math. During PATHS students were given different scenarios and had to use their control signals to help solve the problem. Step by step and solutions will be provided next day 6. This afternoon we reviewed the seven continents and five oceans on earth during Social Studies. We realized that a map is a flat version of the globe (see @starbucksandteach on Instagram for the post!) Students made predictions of some Spanish words that will appear in Stella Diaz this week and we began reading chapter 11. Agenda:
During Roots of Empathy we talked about reasons why babies cry and that we should never shake a baby! During Estimation 180 we looked at how many candy corn pieces fit into a 1/4 cup.
During Daily 5 students read to someone and continued to work on their good copy letter, followed by a fun drawing adjective exercise (check @starbucksandteach 's Instagram story!) This afternoon students read with a learning buddy and we began to explore matter in science! We learned that all matter takes up space and has mass. Agenda:
During math students began a pumpkin place value activity. During daily 5, students worked on weekend writing, and reading to self strategies.
This afternoon was T.U.S.C. presentations - a common goal for students to work on is eye contact. We corrected the adjectives work sheet, and for those who finished all their writing began recopying their letter for their Stella Diaz buddy. Agenda:
We began the day with morning meeting. We looked at estimation 180, and more equality questions. We wrote our rough copies of letters to our buddies reading Stella Diaz, and will write our good copies Monday before sending them away!
Most students complete their Scream Art and will be displayed in the hallways next week! Stella Diaz recap points to assist summary: - Fantastic Time Machine restaurant with Jenny (saw Jessica - this made Stella upset because Jessica made a really rude comment!) - went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving dinner (bought Mexican traditional foods such as elote, pan tostado, frijoles, and aceitunas) - Grandpa and Aunties arrived for Thanksgiving dinner (this made Stella feel sad because she cannot speak Spanish to them) - this also makes her not feel like she belongs anywhere because she is learning both Spanish and English! Agenda:
We began our morning with active start today, followed by discussing that the equal sign in equations means THE SAME! We tested this theory out by looking at balancing scales and blocks. During Daily 5 students read with a buddy, read with me, or worked on adjectives.
We read chapters 9 and 10 in Stella Diaz and will begin writing our letters to another class starting tomorrow. This afternoon we focused on different pencil crayon techniques before colouring in our Scream Art. Agenda:
